I’ve been thinking hard about what we are going to eat and drink in Italy. Some obvious things are gelato, pasta, pizza… And coffee, but I don’t drink that filth. We are going to have a crack at cooking in Florence at a family cooking class, so we’ll even get a chance to make our own under careful supervision.
I’ve never been a big fan of eating pasta when I go out, but maybe it’s the time to try the various flavours on offer. So, to try and avoid my first experience of Mexican cuisine (lamb’s brain tacos), I’ve done a bit of research to get me through the first meal. I’ve ignored most of the sauce names, and gone straight to the ones I think might be worth trying.
Acciughe – Anchovy, garlic and parsley
Frutti di mare – Seafood sauce
Romana – Meat and chicken sauce with chopped mushrooms
Umbria – Pounded anchovies, garlic, tomatoes and truffles
Vongole – Clam sauce, onions, tomatoes, olive oil and garlic
I’m sure there are many more that will tickle my fancy, but hopefully these will at least be an option the first time we order food.
I haven’t had a coffee all year, tempting to start again in Italy 🙂
The best coffee I have ever had in my life was at a cafe in Positano. Had it every day for breakfast for a week. Yum…
